Shane MacDonald OAM LLB - Firm Founder & Special Counsel

Shane has many years experience in Commercial Law, Family Law, Conveyancing, Wills and Estate matters & Criminal Law matters including appearing as court advocate in family law final hearings, criminal law trials, commercial law trials as well as inquests in the Coroner's Court, applications to remove guardians in the Guardianship Tribunal and Mental Health Review Tribunal and various other tribunals which are now part of QCAT. Shane is briefed by other solicitors in the firm in the same way that other solicitors may brief a barrister to provide advice or appear in court to take advantage of his years of experience while at the same time reducing costs to the client and being able to act quickly and efficiently as the file is kept inhouse.

Shane is also involved in many community groups such as Apex (life member), local school committees and has been appointed to both the junior and senior rugby league judiciary and disciplinary tribunals.

Shane has held positions as chair of the Board of Directors for Lifeline Darling Downs & South West Queensland Ltd, boardmember of Apex Queensland Youth Camps Ltd and is president of the Society of Saint Andrew of Scotland (Darling Downs chapter).

Shane was awarded Toowoomba and Regional Citizen of the Year for 2012 and was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2013. Shane holds a bachelor of laws from QUT. Shane is available to attend on people for after hours appointments and will travel to hospitals or homes if clients are too ill to travel.

Sarah-Jane MacDonald LLB, Grad Dip (Leg. Prac.) - Solicitor

Sarah-Jane is a solicitor experienced in the areas of family law, domestic violence, surrogacy, change of name applications, personal Injuries, criminal law, Wills and Estate Law.

Sarah-Jane heads up the family and relationship law division of MacDonald Law and regularly appears in the Family Court in Brisbane as well the Federal Circuit Court and Magistrates Court in various locations throughout Queensland and interstate. 

Having worked in the firm while still in secondary school at Fairholme College, she has lived and breathed the legal profession all of her life. Sarah-Jane completed her Bachelor of Laws degree and her postgraduate practical legal training qualifications while working in the firm. She has completed the Practice Management Course and has an unrestricted practising certificate. 

Sarah-Jane was the Toowoomba Region's Young Citizen of the Year in 2011 for her community involvement and has been awarded Young Apexian of the Year, having been the youngest president of an Apex club in the 85 year history of the association. Sarah-Jane has actually been president of the South Toowoomba Apex Club twice.

Also a current board member of the Downs and South West Queensland Law Association, she has assisted in organising fundraising functions through that body that have raised funds for the domestic violence shelter in Toowoomba as well Lawright. She currently also assists Rosies provide food for the homeless and through Apex is involved providing breakfast to primary school students at a local school. 

Sarah-Jane also adjudicates for high school debating competitions and has been to state and national finals of young fashion designer competitions.

She also is a keen participate in F45 circuits and enjoys travel whenever she can get away from her busy workload at MacDonald Law.

Jag MacDonald - LLB, Grad Dip (Leg. Prac.) - Solicitor

Jag joined the team at MacDonald Law in a part time capacity as an administration assistant in 2009. Jag subsequently became a full time Law Clerk after graduating from Toowoomba Grammar School in 2012 and has now obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree and is admitted as a solicitor. He currently works in the areas of commercial law, crime and estate litigation.

Jag regularly appears in court on behalf of clients including for bail applications, contested criminal cases and sentencing hearings. Jag works out of both our Brisbane and Toowoomba offices so can see people in either location.

Jag participated in mooting competitions (mock court cases) while at university to improve his advocacy skills. Jag's team won the university mooting competition in 2014 and Jag was awarded the trophy for best advocate of the competition. Jag now acts as a judge in the USQ mooting competition to assist law students coming through to hone their advocacy skills.

Jag enjoys rugby union and league as well martial arts and mountain climbing and all general sporting pursuits. He enjoys snow skiing and snowboarding and tries to get away to his favourite ski runs at Queenstown whenever he can. Jag is a member of the Toowoomba Apex Club.

Jag works out both the Brisbane and Toowoomba offices of MacDonald Law. 

Georgia Stafford - LLB Grad. Dip. (Legal Prac.) - Associate

Georgia is admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and is experienced in the areas of succession Law, estate planning & administration, property law, commercial law and rural legal matters.

An associate with the firm, Georgia heads up the Succession Law Department at MacDonald Law as well as undertaking some commercial and property law matters. 

Georgia has a passion for succession law and estate planning, She appreciates that that each client has different needs and is able to assess their individual requirements and is happy to work with them to achieve the best solution possible to ensure that their hard earned assets are left to the people they wish with the least risk of challenge in the most cost effective way. 

Problem solving is one thing that Georgia loves about the law and she is committed to providing practical, commercial and cost effective solutions to her clients in all areas of law that she practises in. 

Georgia is an active member of the community and is currently the secretary of such diverse organisations as:-

- South Toowoomba Apex Club;

- Downs & South West Queensland Law Association;

- Toowoomba Community Care Transport; and

- Toowoomba North ALP.

Georgia is also a member of the panel making recommendations in relation to grant applications under the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. 

However, the RSPCA holds a special place in Georgia's heart and her house is usually full with foster animals being cared for until a permanent home can be found for them. 

Georgia received the Toowoomba Young Citizen of the Year award on Australia Day 2016 for her outstanding contributions to the community. 

Originally from a farming family in Millmerran, Georgia completed her secondary education at Fairholme College and completed a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ). She has been the face of USQ's Fearless campaign and was a featured alumni in USQ'a 50/25 anniversary commemorative publication released in 2017. 

Georgia now lives in Toowoomba with her husband and their pets. Outside of work, her passions are animals, reading, cooking and politics. Georgia participates in a regular radio segment on ABC radio and a featured guest panelist. When she can get away from her busy workload at MacDonald Law, she likes to travel, sampling local culinary delicacies wherever she goes with her husband who is a chef. 

Joe McConnell - Solicitor

Joe has completed his law degree and post-graduate qualifications while working in the criminal law department and has continued working in criminal law since his formal admission as a solicitor on the roll of the Supreme Court of Queensland.

He works alongside Jag MacDonald and Shane MacDonald in the criminal law department of the firm and is the first point of contact for most people in that department.

Joe regularly appears in court in sentencing and other hearings and has instructed barristers at many jury trials.  

When not at work, Joe enjoys playing basketball and listening to RnB. Hardly surprising given that Joe was born in the United States of America. 

Joe loves the laid back Australian lifestyle that we have here in Toowoomba. 

Ashleigh Wegner - Conveyancing Clerk

Ashleigh runs the residential conveyancing section of the firm under the supervision of MacDonald Law solicitor, Sarah-Jane MacDonald.

She loves being able to assist people with buying and selling their homes. She especially loves seeing people turn the dream of owning their first home into a reality. 

Originally from Gatton, Ashleigh enjoys living and working in Toowoomba but gets back down to the Valley to see family and friends regularly. Ashleigh especially enjoys captaining the MacDonald Law social netball team, the Mac's Destroyers.

Helen Kucuku - Legal Assistant and estates clerk

Helen assists in the conduct of estate administration as well as preparation of Wills and enduring powers of attorney.

Helen came to the firm after working with the Public Trustee of Queensland and various other legal firms overseas including the UK.

Originally from New Zealand, Helen loves living in Toowoomba and enjoys our lifestyle.

Rebekah Grott - Legal assistant

Rebekah started off at MacDonald Law as our receptionist and has quickly moved up to being the legal assistant to Mr Ken Parry and Mr Jag MacDonald. She assists mainly in the areas of Wills, estates, commercial and criminal law areas.

Bek loves the outdoors and country music, enjoying both as much as she can. She likes the fact that Toowoomba has all the facilities and services of a big city but one can be out in the bush in a few minutes. She also enjoys playing centre in the MacDonald Law social netball team.
