Shane MacDonald OAM LLB - Special Counsel

Shane has many years experience in Commercial Law, Family Law, Conveyancing, Wills and Estate matters & Criminal Law matters including appearing as court advocate in family law final hearings, criminal law trials, commercial law trials as well as inquests in the Coroner's Court, applications to remove guardians in the Guardianship Tribunal and Mental Health Review Tribunal and various other tribunals which are now part of QCAT. Shane is briefed by other solicitors in the firm in the same way that other solicitors may brief a barrister to provide advice or appear in court to take advantage of his years of experience while at the same time reducing costs to the client and being able to act quickly and efficiently as the file is kept inhouse.

Shane is also involved in many community groups such as Apex (life member), local school committees and has been appointed to both the junior and senior rugby league judiciary and disciplinary tribunals.

Shane currently holds positions as chair of the Board of Directors for Lifeline Darling Downs & South West Queensland Ltd, boardmember of Apex Queensland Youth Camps Ltd and is president of the Society of Saint Andrew of Scotland (Darling Downs chapter).

Shane was awarded Toowoomba and Regional Citizen of the Year for 2012 and was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2013. Shane holds a bachelor of laws from QUT. Shane is available to attend on people for after hours appointments and will travel to hospitals or homes if clients are too ill to travel.

Sarah-Jane MacDonald LLB, Grad Dip (Leg. Prac.) - Solicitor

Sarah-Jane is a solicitor experienced in the areas of family law, domestic violence, surrogacy, change of name applications, personal Injuries, criminal law, Wills and Estate Law.

Sarah-Jane heads up the family and relationship law division of MacDonald Law and regularly appears in the Family Court in Brisbane as well the Federal Circuit Court and Magistrates Court in various locations throughout Queensland and interstate. 

Having worked in the firm while still in secondary school at Fairholme College, she has lived and breathed the legal profession all of her life. Sarah-Jane completed her Bachelor of Laws degree and her postgraduate practical legal training qualifications while working in the firm. She has completed the Practice Management Course and has an unrestricted practising certificate. 

Sarah-Jane was the Toowoomba Region's Young Citizen of the Year in 2011 for her community involvement and has been awarded Young Apexian of the Year, having been the youngest president of an Apex club in the 85 year history of the association. Sarah-Jane has actually been president of the South Toowoomba Apex Club twice.

Also a current board member of the Downs and South West Queensland Law Association, she has assisted in organising fundraising functions through that body that have raised funds for teh domestic violence shelter in Toowoomba as well Lawright. She currently also assists Rosies provide food for the homeless and through Apex is involved providing breakfast to primary school students at a local school. 

Sarah-Jane also adjudicates for high school debating competitions and has been to state and national finals of young fashion designer competitions.

She also is a keen participate at  the local crossfit gym and enjoys travel whenever she can get away from her busy workload at MacDonald Law.

Jag MacDonald - LLB, Grad Dip (Leg. Prac.) - Solicitor

Jag joined the team at MacDonald Law in a part time capacity as an administration assistant in 2009. Jag subsequently became a full time Law Clerk after graduating from Toowoomba Grammar School in 2012 and has now obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree and is admitted as a solicitor. He currently works in the areas of commercial law, crime and estate litigation.

Jag regularly appears in court on behalf of clients including for bail applications, contested criminal cases and sentencing hearings. Jag works out of both our Brisbane and Toowoomba offices so can see people in either location.

Jag participated in mooting competitions (mock court cases) while at university to improve his advocacy skills. Jag's team won the university mooting competition in 2014 and Jag was awarded the trophy for best advocate of the competition. Jag now acts as a judge in the USQ mooting competition to assist law students coming through to hone their advocacy skills.

Jag enjoys rugby union and league as well martial arts and mountain climbing and all general sporting pursuits. He enjoys snow skiing and snowboarding and tries to get away to his favourite ski runs at Queenstown whenever he can. Jag is a member of the Toowoomba Apex Club.

Ken Parry LLB - Solicitor

Ken is experienced in Wills and estate law, retirement village law, family law and commercial law. Ken has practised law for many years having studied at QUT. Ken is married with a blended family of 9 so understands the issues that can arise and has the empathy as well as experience and expertise to be able to assist clients with their matters.

Ken grew up in Brisbane and played first grade for Eastern Suburbs Rugby League Club in his younger days. Ken moved to Toowoomba in 2004 for a green change.

Ken has been a volunteer at the Homeless Persons Legal Clinic, the Roma Community Legal Centre as well as the Advocacy and Support Centre in Toowoomba. 

John Davis LLB, Grad. Dip (Leg. Prac.) - Solicitor

John Davis heads up our criminal law division and is experienced in all aspects of criminal law and related matters from traffic matters (including work licence and special hardship licence applications) right up to murder charges and everything in between.

John understands how stressful being charged with a criminal offence can be and will deal with your matter with the seriousness it deserves, making sure that you get the best result possible in all of the circumstances while seeking to finalise matters quickly so that you can get on with your life.

John came to the firm after working in the criminal law section of a firm in the ACT. John has moved to Toowoomba and loves the lifestyle. John's pastimes include rugby and cricket, which he currently plays in the local Toooomba comp. He is also currently on the board of the Downs and South West Queensland Law Association. 

John regularly appears as the duty lawyer assisting people who do not have their own representation as part of a roster of solicitors undertaking this role.

John can assess if clients are eligible for Legal Aid funding or make arrangements for various methods of private payment options.

Aaron Willson LLB, Grad. Dip. (Leg. Prac.) - solicitor

Aaron is a solicitor working in the family law and civil law areas of MacDonald Law. He enjoys the challenge and variety that both these areas of law provide. 

Aaron has had experience in both children and property matters in family law as well as domestic violence and general relationship law.

As well as appearing in court, Aaron appears with clients in mediations and family dispte resolution conferences in the family law area to try and resolve matters without going to court if at all possible as Aaron recognises that it is better for the children and the clients if they can come to their own resolution rather than a judge imposing orders on them. Aaron also knows that it is generally much cheaper to mediate than litigate so tries to save his client's costs wherever possible.

Aaron also assists the criminal law department in that area when required. 

Originally from Brisbane, Aaron enjoys being a part of the MacDonald Law team and really enjoys living in Toowoomba. Aaron plays club tennis but enjoys watching all sports. In his spare time you can also find Aaron four wheel driving or restoring his beloved old Landrover.

Neil Brown - Practice manager

Neil is the firm's practice manager and has the responsibility for everyday management of staff as well as the financial aspects of the the firm.

Neil is a Toowoomba boy born and bred. Prior to moving into the legal industry Neil was the sports editor at the Toowoomba Chronicle for many years. Prior to coming to work with MacDonald Law Neil worked at South Queensland Law and predecessor firm Meibusch Munro Maguire.

Neil  played cricket and hockey in his younger years and currently enjoys a more leisurely game of golf as well as supporting his children in their sporting endeavours. Neil's son and daughter both have played hockey for Australia over a number of years.

Neil is also involved in community organisations such as Meals on Wheels and the USQ Student Guild.

Riley Wallace - conveyancing clerk

Riley is now a conveyancing clerk with the firm having first commenced working with the firm as a receptionist.

She enjoys the client interaction and assisting people get into their new home or assisting them sell their existing home so that upgrade to a new one. 

Riley undertakes all aspects of client's residential purchase or sale files of houses and units from start to finish under the supervision of the firm's solicitors.

Helen Kucuku - Legal Assistant and estates clerk

Helen assists in the conduct of estate administration as well as preparation of Wills and enduring powers of attorney.

Helen came to the firm after working with the Public Trustee of Queensland and various other legal firms overseas including the UK.

Originally from New Zealand, Helen loves living in Toowoomba and enjoys our lifestyle.

Chloe Gleeson - Legal Assistant

Chloe is the legal assistant to family law and relationships solicitors, Sarah-Jane MacDonald and Aaron Wilson and relishes in the challenges faced each day in this area of law. 

Chloe enjoys many sports and plays netball in her spare time. 

She enjoys being able to assist in getting people through the difficult period in their life when faced with family law or domestic violence matters. 



Rebekah Grott - Legal assistant

Rebekah started off at MacDonald Law as our receptionist and has quickly moved up to being the legal assistant to Mr Ken Parry and Mr Jag MacDonald. She assists mainly in the areas of Wills, estates, commercial and criminal law areas.

Bek loves the outdoors and country music, enjoying both as much as she can. She likes the fact that Toowoomba has all the facilities and services of a big city but one can be out in the bush in a few minutes. 



Joe McConnell - Criminal Law Clerk

Joe is the assistant to John Davis in the criminal law department of the firm and is the first point of contact for most people in that department.

Joe regularly appears in court at mentions of matters as well as instructing barristers in trials and other hearings. He is looking forward to running complete hearings himself once admitted. 

When not at work, Joe is studying for his bachelor of laws degree at the University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba campus and enjoys playing basketball. 

Originally from the United States, Joe loves the laid back Australian lifestyle that we have here in Toowoomba.
